Aphrodisias undoubtedly is the most spectacular city of Caria. When you visit the site, you can't help but admire the various tones of the scattered marble fragments and the very detailed statues. They used marble as if it were silk in the sculpture school situated in the city.

The earliest settlements in the city have been dated to 5.800 BC, but the during the Roman Period Aphrodisias reached the peak of wealth and fame because because of its School of Sculpture. They exported their art to many different places including Rome and Egypt. The city was exempted from taxes and enjoyed religious privileges and the fact that the site was a shrine to Aphrodite made it even more famous.

The stadium, which is the largest and best-preserved ancient stadium in the world, the temple of Aphrodite, the theater for 10.000 spectators, these are the most attractive parts of the site.
